Any person working in a prescribed area for the first time (WorkCover regulation: 90dBSPLeq or Mines Health regulation : 85dBSPLeq) is required to have a baseline hearing test within the first 12 months of starting the job, at the employers expense.

If working in a prescribed workplace, it is recommended that you have monitoring hearing tests annually or at least every two years.

If working in a prescribed workplace you have the right to ask your employer for an annual hearing test.

What’s involved:

  • Checking worker has had 16 hours of relative quiet prior to test
  • Brief ear health check
  • Otoscopy: Looking in the ear
  • Air conduction at : 500, 1000, 1500, 2000, 3000, 4000, 6000, 8000Hz
  • Lodging results with WorkCover
